The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Yaounde organised educational outreach events at three schools in Yaounde on the occasion of International Day of Peace.

On 21 September UNIC’s National Information Officer (NIO), spoke to students at the Government Bilingual School, the Lycee General Leclerc and the Technical College (CETIC).

UNIC Bujumbura observes International Day of Peace

Commemoration of the International Day of Peace 2007 by UNIC Bujumbura

On 21 September, the UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Bujumbura, in association with the UN Communications Group, the Ministry of National Solidarity, Human Rights and Gender, the Ministry of Sports and Youth and representatives of civil society, organized the commemoration of International Day of Peace under the local theme, "Let's redouble our efforts to consolidate peace."

The event incuded a peace ride with one hundred cyclists, among them the Head of State and the Executive Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Burundi. 

The official ceremony took place at Prince Louis Rwagasore Stadium and the Head of State opened an exhibit of children’s drawings.

UNIC Director reads the Secretary General's message on International Youth Day

Panel Discussion held in UNIC Yangon commemorating the International Youth Day

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Yangon commemorated International Youth Day 2007 by holding a panel discussion in the UN compound on this year's theme "Be seen, be heard: youth participation in development."  Dr. Aung Tun Thet, Principal Officer, spoke on several aspects of youth participation such as rising up to challenges, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), ethics and whistleblowing.  The General Secretary of an environmentalnon-governmental organization (NGO), FREDA ( Forest Resource Environment Development and Conservation Association), talked about youth partcipation in environmental conservation in Myanmar, while the Director of ICE Youth (Information Centre for Every Youth) spoke of his group's youth library and activities to inspire youth education in Myanmar.

The panel was moderated by former Myanmar Ambassador to Australia, Mr. Maung Maung Soe Tint.  The UN Resident Coordinator and UNIC Director welcomed the gathering and read the Secretary-General's message.  UNIC Yangon's National Information Officer was the master of ceremonies. Approximately 80 people attended the event, mainly young people.
