The youth group Young Enterpreneurs Organization visits UNIC Lusaka

UNIC Lusaka with a youth group for the empowerement of youth through entrepreneurial skills training

On 11 November the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Lusaka welcomed the youth group Young Entrepreneurs Organisation (Y.E.O.) which seeks to empower young people by building their entrepreneurial skills. Y.E.O. members who visited UNIC Lusaka saw two videos on women entrepreneurs.  The videos also showed how the UN provides assistance and support in order to economically empower women.

UNIC Lusaka gave the group information materials on gender violence, the MDG report for 2007 and a publication entitled "Building Partnerships Between The UN and Private Sector."

This visit was timely as it occurred one week before the observance of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25 November.

The UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Bujumbura organized a media workshop on "The role of the media in preventing genocide: lessons from Rwanda" on 8 November.  80 journalists attended the workshop.

The programme included two presentations entitled "Lessons from Rwanda" and "The role of the media in preventing genocide".  The UNIC National Information Officer moderated the debates and deleivered and introductory speech and concluding remarks.
