As part of World AIDS Day activities, the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Canberra participated in the Doves and Ribbons Day on 30 November at Manuka Village, Canberra.
 
The event was held in collaboration with Amnesty International, the AIDS Action Council of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), OzCOTs - a Canberra based charity which supports South African women and children affected by HIV, and the Manuka Business Association.  
 
In his speech the Speaker of the ACT Legislative Assembly stated that the World AIDS Day event was a good example of how diverse groups from within the Canberra community can come together to highlight important HIV/AIDS issues. 
 
Additional activities included live music from local Canberra bands, information stalls, raffles to raise money for children with HIV/AIDS in Africa and a painting competition.

El pasado 28 de noviembre se llevó a cabo un acto cultural organizado por la Misión Especial de Palestina en el Perú y la Municipalidad de San Miguel para celebrar el XX Aniversario de la Declaración de la Independencia y el Día Internacional de Solidaridad con el Pueblo de Palestina. El acto estuvo presidido por el Excelentísimo Doctor Walid Abdel-Rahim, Jefe de la Misión Especial de Palestina, el Alcalde de San Miguel, Salvador Heresi, la Lic. Libia Ishlay de Abdel-Rahim, esposa del Jefe de la Misión Especial de Palestina, y la Lic. Inés Scudellari, Oficial de Información del Centro de Información de las Naciones Unidas en el Perú.

Durante la ceremonia, a la que asistieron miembros del Cuerpo Diplomático del Perú, autoridades de gobierno, miembros de la comunidad palestina en el Perú y público en general, el Alcalde Salvador Heresi dio la bienvenida y destacó los lazos que hermanan a los pueblos de Palestina y el Perú. Inés Scudellari, por su parte, leyó el mensaje del Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas, Ban Ki-moon, quien pidió que se trabaje “de forma constructiva, incansable y coherente para lograr una solución justa, duradera, amplia y urgente a la cuestión de Palestina”.

El Embajador Walid Abdel-Rahim tuvo las palabras centrales durante la ceremonia. Señaló que valoraba lo expresado por el Secretario General de la ONU con motivo de esta fecha y agregó que el pueblo palestino tenía para exportar un inmenso corazón. Hizo votos porque llegue la paz a la región y posteriormente tomó la palabra a su esposa, quien es Licenciada en Historia e hizo un recuento acerca de la riqueza artística y cultural del pueblo palestino desde sus orígenes hasta nuestros días. Como parte del acto cultural, se presentó un vídeo, hubo danzas típica interpretadas por jóvenes de la comunidad palestina en el Perú y una exhibición de trajes típicos y fina artesanía palestina.

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Harare in partnership with the Embassy of the State of Palestine held a press conference on 28 November 2008 to commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestine People. Speakers included a representative of the Embassy of the State of Palestine and the the Director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. UNIC Harare also organized a live television interview for the representative of the Embassy of the State of Palestine.

In order to mark International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Buenos Aires, with the support of the University of Buenos Aires Law School, organized an event in coordination with the Palestinian Delegation in Argentina. The event was held in the auditorium of the University of Buenos Aires Law School on 26 November 2008 and was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, academics, students, government officials, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and representatives of the Palestinian community in Argentina. Speakers discussed the history of the Day, read the Secretary-General's message for the Day and unveiled a photo exhibit on the theme of "The Question of Palestine and the United Nations."
