IFAD's President Visits Burundi

At the invitation of the Burundi Head of State, Kanayo F. Nwanze, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), paid an official visit to Burundi from 28 to 31 March.

In his declaration to the press at the airport he said that his visit aimed to strengthen cooperation between Burundi and his Organization. He revealed that an Establishment Agreement would be signed with the government of Burundi for the installation of an IFAD Country Representative. He also looked forward to collaboration between Burundi and IFAD through the Minister of Agriculture, in eradicating rural poverty.

IFAD's mission is to enable poor rural people to overcome poverty, by working with rural communities, governments, donors, non-governmental organizations and many other partners. It focuses on country-specific solutions, which can involve increasing rural poor peoples' access to financial services, markets, technology, land and other natural resources.
