UNIC Algeria takes part in the Algiers International Book Fair

29 September 2012

UNIC Algiers took part in the International Book Fair of Algiers (SILA), organized by the Ministry of Culture, from 20 to 29 September, at the Exhibition Centre in Pins Maritimes. The 17th International Book Fair of Algiers, which coincided with the celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of Algerian independence, was attended by 600 publishers from 41 countries. UNIC participated with a stand displaying UN information products, which included a photo exhibition on the UN Secretaries-General, with biographies.

As in previous editions of SILA, the UNIC stand attracted a large audience, including teachers, researchers and academicians eager for documents, information, and publications of the UN. There was a strong demand for UN publications in relation to certain topics such as human rights, the environment, population, and the fight against terrorism.

This year's Book Fair which was themed "My book, My Freedom”, was a good opportunity for UNIC to raise public awareness about the activities and priorities of the UN and to disseminate advocacy tools such as “Basic Facts about the UN”, MDG booklets, the UN Charter, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
