The Zimbabwe International Book Fair was held in Harare on 2-4 August. Two United Nations offices, namely the the UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Harare and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), were among the 84 exhibitors that participated in the book fair. The UNIC had a film tent and screened videos from various United Nations agencies and both the UNIC and UNDP had a pavillion where publications were available for visitors. Some of the publications UNIC Harare distributed at the fair include "Basic Facts About the United Nations", "the Charter of the United Nations", and "the Universal Declaration of Human Rights."
More than 2 500 people attended the Zimbabwe International Book Fair and about seventy-five percent of them visited the United Nations pavilion. These included international and local publishers, booksellers, writers, librarians, school-teachers, headmasters, students, researchers, civic leaders, government officials, and the general public.
