Scouts participate in flag-raising ceremony to mark United Nations Day

The people of Sudan and the United Nations joined together to launch at a series of events around the country marking United Nations Day. On 23 October, Khartoum State hosted a UN Day tribute for government officials, UN System representatives and members of the diplomatic corps. The ceremony included speeches, music and songs.

The United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) celebrated UN Day with peacekeeping and mission staff and members of the Kadugli, Ed Damazin, Abyei, Juba, Malakal and Wau communities. The UNMIS Force Commander addressed the guests and his address was followed by a ceremonial raising of the UN flag.

The African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) and the UN Country Team celebrated UN Day with over 200 students who performed songs in honor of the Day. UNAMID staff performed traditional dances from their respective countries.

UNIC Khartoum celebrates United Nations Day

To celebrate United Nations Day, 24 October, the UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Khartoum, in collaboration with the UN Association of Sudan and the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS), organised a televised debate on the theme of climate change at the Ministry of Energy and Mining.

Speakers included the State Minister of Environment, the senior advisor to the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resource (HCENR) and the assistant professor at the Institute of Environmental Studies, University of Khartoum. The United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) focal point for environment issues discussed UNDP's support to Sudan in connection with climate change.
