Message by His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain on the occasion of World Day of the United Nations

His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa the Prime Minister, called upon the world community to work for the establishment of foundations for a more stable world order in order to enhance cooperation in political, security and economic fields. "This would contribute to addressing all threats to world security and stability and serve joint human interests of all peoples," HRR said.

In a message to the world on the occasion of United Nations Day which occurs on 24 October, His Royal Highness stressed that international cooperation, represented in the United Nations, has constituted, for more than six decades, a point of rapprochement and convergence  towards sublime goals designed to serve humanity in the spirit of collective action. This requires all states to lend their support and solidarity for a better life for man everywhere. 
 
"Celebration of the United Nations Day represents an opportunity for the world to assess the course of the International Organization in an epoch that is characterized by the dichotomy of human community into one camp that enjoys prosperity and another that suffers from misery and need; one of the problems of humanity that threatens world security and stability, " His Royal Highness added.
 
His Royal Highness further urged the world community to make more contributions and to work for the realization of human fraternity and the building of a future of prosperity and welfare that we aspire for the sake of the human family. 

His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa the Prime Minister lauded the existing level of cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain an the United Nations as well as the agreements resulting from such cooperation that would help expand scopes of partnership between both sides.

"Bahrain, supported by its faithful people, is working, by all available means, for steady progress and prosperity. Bahrain is also doing all its best, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad Bin Eesa Al-Khalifa, to make plentiful contributions for the sake of our homeland and citizens, "His Royal Highness confirmed.

His Royal Highness added that Bahrain firmly believes in the United Nations principles, establishes its foreign relations on this solid base and seeks to cement ties of friendship with nations that believe in these principles in a bid to bring about welfare for the world community.

His Royal Highness called for working on the discussion of the required structural reforms for the United Nations that would raise the effectiveness of its pivotal role in all fields.

His Royal Highness stressed that to give the United Nations more ability for early and speedy movement in the face of challenges and threats is a goal on which the will of world community. Thus, the international organization would not, in some case, stand hand-tied and short of realizing its sublime goals for which it was created.
 
His Royal Highness pointed out that the nature of new developments and variables the world is undergoing has enhanced the feeling by several peoples of the need to conduct a comprehensive review of the international action system and to make it more representative and expressive of the will of international community and more able to achieve the aspired goals of sustainable development.

The Prime Minister further pointed out that the establishment of foundations for durable and comprehensive peace requires an international vision based on awareness of the fact that addressing the roots of security and military challenges is associated with the creation of a world economic order mainly based on social justice. This should be the focus of world attention in the years to come.
 
His Royal Highness  indicated that the United Nations organization has a special symbolic value gained from the fact it came into being as result of a collective recognition and awareness that humanity could no longer tolerate recurrence of past  tragedies and destruction that took millions of lives and that there was always another way that all may pursue  to resolve their difference with no losses; i.e. the way of cooperation, building and reconstruction.

His Royal Highness pointed out that the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals adopted by the United Nations can serve as an appropriate springboard for communities to pursue their own development programs. This is especially important because these goals represent a pivotal human choice in today's world where wars and conflict reign.

"The United Nations Day has its far-reaching and expressive significance; it reminds the international community of the high-risk problems it suffers from, means of realizing all our aspirations for the good of humanity, in accordance with the rules, laws and principles of justice and the need to provides means of security and peace in all parts of the world, " His Royal Highness said. 
 
Concluding his message, His Royal Highness the Prime Minister paid tribute to the noble efforts exerted by the United Nations, its Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-Moon and its specialized agencies in cementing and strengthening ties of international cooperation on all levels, in addition to its role in reinforcing collective security efforts across a long path, where it has scored many successes.

International Day of Peace in Manama

UNIC Manama, the Regional Institute of Autism (RIA) and Ajyad Organization, marked the International Day of Peace by organizing the “Peace One Day Football League”. The event which took place on 21 September, at the Soccer City in Saar, Bahrain, featured a football league that brought together 24 teams from all over Bahrain, including two women teams.

The event included a Women Bazar that featured small businesswomen's creations. UNIC Manama’s Director delivered the message of the Secretary-General and further stated that the tournament was an opportunity to promote tolerance consciousness and to advocate dialogue, mutual understanding and a culture of peace among different individuals, communities and regions.

International Youth Day 2012

UNIC Manama joined Bahrain’s General Organization for Youth & Sports (GOYS) in commemorating International Youth Day under the theme “Building a Better World: Partnership with Youth.” The event which took place at the Sofitel Hotel was attended by HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Youth & Sports (SCYS), HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Vice Chairman of SCYS, Mr Hisham Al Jowder, President of GOYS, UNIC Director Nejib Friji, as well as hundreds of youth who were awarded for their outstanding achievements.  During the event, the UNIC Director delivered the UN Secretary-General's message for the Day and was awarded a shield by HH Shaikh Nasser Al Khalifa in recognition of the UN’s outstanding youth initiatives in Bahrain and in the world.

Launch of Sky News Arabia Channel in Abu Dhabi

The UN Information Centre in Manama’s Director traveled to Abu Dhabi, UAE from 06-07 May, to attend the launch of SKY News Arabia Channel.  The Director had the opportunity to meet with the editorial board and the General Manager of SKY News where he discussed ways and means of establishing and enhancing cooperation between the SKY News group and the UN System both in Bahrain and in the region at large and with UNIC Manama in particular.  The Director further gave three separate interviews to SKY News Arabia where he welcomed the launch of the channel, highlighting the importance of the UN role in the region in providing assistance to the governments and people in the Arab region and further stated that the launch will enlarge the landscape of re-enforcing pluralism and independence of media.
