"Libres à jamais - En célébration de l'Émancipation" tel est le thème de la célébration de la journée internationale de commémoration des victimes de l'esclavage et de la traite transatlantique des esclaves célébrée afin de rendre hommage à ceux qui ont souffert et sont morts aux mains du système de l'esclavage, et pour sensibiliser le public aux dangers actuels du racisme et des préjugés. A cette occasion, un évènement regroupant une cinquantaine d’étudiants et deux professeurs du Lycée Allal El Fassi de Rabat s’est déroulé le 25 mars 2013 et a été marqué par une activité musicale et des présentations assurées par le CINU, Amnesty et un Groupe d’élèves sur les thématiques suivantes : Actions des Nations Unies, Actions d’Amnesty, esclavage, discrimination raciale et Droits de l’Homme. Un débat intéressant s’est instauré à la fin des présentations sur les valeurs de tolérance, respect, liberté, justice, égalité et droit de vivre à l’abri de la peur pour tous.

Les messages du Secrétaire Général de l’ONU se rapportant aux deux célébrations ont été distribués à la fin des deux évènements.

"Forever Free: Celebrating Emancipation" was the theme for this year’s commemoration of the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The aim of the commemoration is to pay tribute to those who have suffered and died at the hands of the system of slavery, and to educate the public about the dangers of current racism and prejudice.

This year, UNIC Rabat, and Amnesty international organized an event bringing together students and professors from the Allal El Fassi School in Rabat, which was held on 25 March. The commemoration was marked with musical activities and presentations on the work done by the United Nations, and Amnesty International in ending slavery, racial discrimination and in promoting human rights. An interesting debate was initiated at the end of the presentations on the values of tolerance, respect, freedom, justice, equality and the right to for everyone to live free from fear.

Dans le cadre de la célébration de la semaine de solidarité avec les peuples en lutte contre le racisme et la discrimination raciale qui commence chaque année à compter du 21 mars, le Centre d’Information des Nations Unies Rabat a organisé en collaboration avec Amnesty International Section Maroc deux activités d’information et de sensibilisation visant les jeunes étudiants membres du club d’Amnesty.

15 étudiants et 4 professeurs du Lycée Abi Dar El Rhifari à Rabat, ont participé le 22 mars 2013 à la célébration de la Journée internationale pour l’élimination de la discrimination raciale. Après une introduction par le CINU sur le thème de « l’ONU et la lutte contre le racisme », les étudiants ont travaillé en ateliers pour dégager les formes de racisme courantes au sein de la société ainsi que les moyens susceptibles de lutter contre ces différentes formes de racisme au niveau national. Par la suite, la parole a été donnée à deux élèves qui ont présenté un exposé sur la thématique du racisme. Cet évènement fut clôturé par un professeur d’Anglais qui a chanté en compagnie des élèves la chanson « Ebony and Ivory » de Paul McCartney et Stevie Wonder.

As part of the week-long celebrations for "Solidarity with Peoples Struggling against Racism and Racial Discrimination", which begins each year on 21 March, the UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Rabat organized, in collaboration with Amnesty International Section - Morocco, two outreach activities for Amnesty club student members.

Students and teachers from Abi Dar El Rhifari school in Rabat participated in the celebrations on 22 March. After an introduction done by UNIC on "UN and its Actions Against Racism", students worked in groups to identify common forms of racism in society and discussed ways to combat them. Subsequently, the floor was given to two students who gave a presentation on the subject. The session was ended with the students and teachers singing "Ebony and Ivory", by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder.
