The UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Asunción collaborated with the Joint Peacekeeping Training Centre from the Paraguayan Armed Forces on two events to commemorate the 60th anniversary of peacekeeping operations.

On 2 June, military commanders of the peacekeeping unit were invited to a live television show. They discussed their local goals and talked about UN work in peacekeeping around the world.

On 6 June the celebration of the 60th anniversary coincided with the completion of the training of troops for the first all-Paraguayan peacekeeping outfit. Paraguay used to participate in Brazilian, Argentine and Spanish contingents, but now is ready to take full responsibility for a mission. The chief commander of the Paraguayan Armed Forces and the US Ambassador in Asunción were among the officials that took part in the celebration.

The UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Asuncion collaborated with the National Post Service of Paraguay in December 2007 in the release of a series of stamps commemorating the International Year of Deserts and Desertification. The stamps, worth 7,000 local Guarani (US$ 1.70), are the newest collectible stamps of the National Postal Service.
