A group of international relations students and faculty from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, met with specialists of the United Nations and other international organizations on 9 May, at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) to learn about addressing organized crime and counter-terrorism.
The one-day students forum organized by the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna discussed the nuclear non-proliferation work of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Mr. Bojan Bertoncelj, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Permanent Mission of Slovenia to the United Nations in Vienna, complements the programme with a presentation on the Slovene European Union Presidency.
This year’s students forum was held in the spirit of cooperation between the United Nations and the European Union. During his recent visit to Vienna, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that the United Nations needed to work in close cooperation with the European Union to address the many challenges facing the international community. Communication with young people is one of the priorities of the Secretary-General as they are future decision-makers. Teaching them about the work of the United Nations is a way of ensuring the future of multilateralism.
