On 14 November the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Moscow organized a special event to mark International Day for Tolerance. Approximately 45 people attended the event.

The Director of UNIC Moscow opened the event by quoting from the Secretary-General's statement for the Day: “Tolerance should not be mistaken for concession or condescension. Genuine tolerance is about openness, curiosity and communication. It goes hand in hand with knowledge and understanding.” Additional speakers included the President of the Institute of the Middle East and the Information Adviser of the newly established Office of the Council of Europe in Moscow.

An exhibition of paintings by artist Igor Sapunkov was unveiled at the end of the event.
