Volunteer accepts award during "Best Volunteer of the Year" ceremony in Yerevan

On 5 December 2008 the United Nations Volunteers programme in Armenia, together with the “Youth for Peace and Development” non-governmental organization (NGO) and the UN information office (UNO) Yerevan, organized an award ceremony entitled “Best volunteer of the year” to commemorate International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development.

Officials of the UN System in Armenia, the head of the Department of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, representatives of government institutions, diplomatic missions, the private and public sectors and the media participated in the event, which took place in the Gabriel Sundukyan National Academic Theatre in Yerevan.

The main objective of the event was to encourage the establishment of a volunteers network in Armenia and to foster partnerships between NGOs, youth centers and social centers.

Awards were given in the following categories: 1) best international volunteer of the year, 2) best volunteer coordinator of the year, 3) youngest volunteer of the year, 4) most skillful volunteer of the year and 5) the best volunteering organization of the year.
