The United Nations Informa-tion Centre (UNIC) Manama and the Ministry of Informa-tion and Culture, the Press Association, The Arab Media Forum of Kuwait, organized an official event that brought together the main Editors-in-Chief of several Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan to mark World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) in a seminar delving into press freedom challenges in the Arab World.

During the morning session attended by Ministers, MPs and Arab media leaders, Bahrain Minister of Information made a statement praising the WPFD. UNIC Director delivered the Secretary-General’s message and the statement of the Director-General of UNESCO.

UNIC Director also participated in the debates of the afternoon sessions. Furthermore, UNIC Director gave interviews to Al Ikbhariya TV Al Jazira and Rotana newspapers (Saudi Arabia), Al Hayat, Radio Orient (broadcasting in France and Lebanon), Bahrain Radio, Gulf Daily News, Bahrain TV and Al Ayam (Bahrain).

UNIC Manama together with the media advisor of Bahrain’s King also arranged that HM King Hamad Al Khalifa issues a statement on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day in which HM pledged complete support to press freedom and instructed the country’s legislative bodies to adopt laws that protect press freedom and media professionals.
