2010 MDG Report Launch
On 23 June, the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Lagos collaborated with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the World Health Organization (WHO) to launch the 2010 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Report in Lagos, Nigeria. Among the events participants were senior media officials and government officials.
The event was chaired by Sara Beysolow-Nyanti, head of UNICEF Lagos, with Rafiu Tijani, a representative of the Lagos State Ministry of Budget and Planning, as the Guest of Honor. Mr. Charles Nosa Osazuwa, the Officer-In-Charge of UNIC Lagos, used a Power Point presentation to highlight the successes recorded thus far along with the inherent challenges that have been created by the global economic crises.
Following his remarks, Ransome-Kuti of the Nigeria Network of NGOs (NNNGO), gave a presentation on the expectations and responsibilities of the government and civil society as a whole in regard to the achievement of the MDGs. She explained that the role of civil society organizations should include the necessary commitment to increased advocacy, mobilization and education of the MDGs at the community level.
The various heads of UN agencies in Lagos spoke on the various programmes and activities that are planned with the intent of achieving the MDGs in Nigeria.
