Stand Up Against Poverty

The United Nations Infor-mation Centre (UNIC) Lagos, in collaboration with UNHCR, UNIDO, IOM, WHO, SOS Children's Village and other civil society organizations, held a rally and street walk in Lagos to Stand Up and Make Noise Against Poverty.

More than 200 participants, including staff members of some UN agencies in Lagos, members of civil society organizations and the media, with Vuvuzelas, whistles and accompanied by a mobile brass musical band, walked, danced and sang from UNIC office in Lagos to the Ikoyi/Obalende Local Government Council Secretariat.

On behalf of the participants, the UNIC Lagos Officer-In-Charge Charles Nosa Osazuwa, delivered a letter, which conveyed the key messages of the MDG Summit, to the Council Chairman Mr Razaq Adewale Adeniji. Mr. Osazuwa also spoke about the urgency and necessity for governments to take urgent actions against poverty and work to achieve the MDGs.
