The introductory session on "The Holocaust" before the film screening

On the occasion of International Day of commemoration to honor the Victims of the Holocaust, the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Yaounde organized an educational outreach event with 40 students of 2 high schools, such as Lycée Bilingue d’Essos and Mervick Bilingual Grammar School in Yaounde.

The Ambassador of Israel to Cameroon, H.E. Michael Arbel was special guest for the event, featured a film screening of the production “One Survivor Remembers”.

At the end of the screening, the Ambassador of Israel was invited to make a remark he became emotional and controlling his tears exclaimed “This story reminds me of my mother and our life… My mum was a survivor, a Jew in Hungary at that time with her brother but she could never get herself to tell us her story at the Nazi camps…”

Students listened keenly and passionately to the Ambassador tell his story and share his knowledge about the Holocaust showing pictures that he managed to get recently off the Internet.
At the end of the event the UNIC’s NIO shared quotes from the UN Secretary-General message on the occasion which was dedicated to women.
