Participants of the event
On 15 April 2011, the UN Information Centre (UNIC) Mexico City held the 2011 workshop with participation of 35 librarians from Mexico, Argentina and the Dominican Republic.
In addition, at least 40 Internet connections, including from all UNICs in the region and the ECLAC Library in Santiago, as well as from a number of other locations, were participating in group sessions. Just in UNIC Asunción there were 43 participants in the workshop.
To meet the interest of libraries in the English-speaking Caribbean, UNIC had two production teams in order to have two simultaneous broadcasts: Spanish (original) and English translation (by UNIC volunteers).
The workshop was an interactive event, allowing the distance participants for both the Spanish and the English broadcast to ask questions/make comments through Internet chat.
All UNIC staff, supported by 17 volunteers, including interpreters, contributed to the success of the event. That was the first ever library workshop provided simultaneously in two official languages. The UNIC Librarian, Antonia Reséndiz, led this effort and flawlessly coordinated the large team, while the Webmaster, Juan José Durán coordinated all the technical arrangements.
