Roundtable on "Tourism Without Borders"

06 September 2011

On 6 September, the UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Moscow held a roundtable on “Tourism Without Borders” at the World Bank Moscow office organized by, a multifaceted pro-disability project and a close partner of the UNIC.

The meeting which brought together three dozen people including government officials, business executives, civil society activists and journalists, stressed the importance of building a society that respected equality and ensured that persons with special needs were fully included in all social, leisure and cultural activities.

NGO representatives, state-run and private firms described their efforts at transforming Russia into a country without institutional and physical fences, thereby making the inclusion of disabled people a reality. It was agreed however that the campaign still had a long way to go as accessible infrastructure or transportation in the country were in their early stages of development.
