Holocaust Victims Commemorated in Istanbul

On 26 January, as part of the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, the Turkish Jewish Community conducted a ceremony at Neve Shalom Synagogue, in Beyoglu, Istanbul.
 
The ceremony started with the screening of Secretary-General’s video message with Turkish subtitles, which were provided by the UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Ankara. The Governor of Istanbul, Mayor of Beyoglu and a Foreign Ministry representative attended the ceremony.
 
The Governor of Istanbul Hüseyin Avni Mutlu, emphasized the importance of tolerance and the Foreign Ministry representative Ambassador Ertan Tezgör, said that the semi-official Turkish Radio and Television (Channel 2) would broadcast a film on the Holocaust called “The Shoah”.
