In Ankara, several non-governmental organizations, universities, journalists and activists took streets, campuses and parliament to dance and protest the violence against women.
Dozens of cities including Ankara, İstanbul, İzmir, Bursa, Mardin and Zonguldak were among those hosting the festive protest of violence against women.
The UN Information Centre (UNIC) Ankara supported the event that was organized at Middle East Technical University (METU) with the participation of university students and academicians.
Gender equality is one of the main focus areas of UN agencies operating in Turkey. In line with that, UNIC Ankara is planning to organize a joint event with METU and the European Union Commission in Ankara to mark the 8 March International Day of Women to raise awareness in gender equality issues.
