United Nations Information Centres

Africa

The Information Centres in sub-Saharan Africa are located in Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Eritrea, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Zambia and Zimbabwe. They organize events, hold press conferences, launch reports and visit schools and communities to explain the work of the United Nations to local populations.

Taking advantage of South Africa's well-developed infrastructure and large national and international media presence DGC strengthened the Information Centre in Pretoria to enable it to provide thematic and logistical support, and where necessary, policy guidance and information outreach assistance, to other UNICs in the region. In order to spread the word about the work of the United Nations around the continent, all centres in sub-Saharan Africa have now functioning websites.
